Japanese anime feature based on the manga series by Hinako Sugiura about a real life artist and his daughter. Set in Edo now known as Tokyo in 1814, the story follows O-Ei voice of Anne Watanabe, daughter of the accomplished and unconventional painter Tetsuzo Yutaka Matsushige. He encourages O-Ei to develop her artistic skills which sees her becoming as uninhibited as her father, putting her at odds with conservative Japanese society. While Tetsuzo goes on to become world-famous, O-Ei remains relatively unknown and uncredited, despite the contributions she makes to her father's art.
