Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway star in Arthur Penn's lauded crime drama based on the true story of outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. In the 1930s, car thief Clyde Beatty teams up with Bonnie Dunaway, the daughter of one of his victims, and together they become notorious bank robbers and Depression-era folk legends. They form a gang with Clyde's brother, Buck Gene Hackman, Buck's wife, Blanche Estelle Parsons, and gas station employee C.W. Michael J. Pollard. When one of their robberies goes wrong, Clyde commits a murder and, with the police hot on their trail, the gangsters find themselves constantly on the run. The film received ten Oscar nominations, winning awards for Best Cinematography and Best Supporting Actress for Parsons.

Jaroslava Schallerov stars in this Czech fantasy horror based on the novel by Vitezslav Nezval. 13-year-old Valerie Schallerov is on the cusp of adolescence as she indulges in Gothic daydreams and fantasies. After she disturbs a thief stealing earrings belonging to her mother, everything changes in the teenager's life and she is forced to mature quickly.

Vitalina Varela stars as a fictionalised version of herself in this Portuguese drama from film-maker Pedro Costa. The story follows on from Costa's 'Horse Money' 2015 in which Vitalina told how she struggled when her husband relocated for work 25 years before. Further on in Vitalina's story, she discovers her now late husband's secret life and wonders if she ever really knew the real him.

When he is discovered in a secret chamber along with four colleagues they are allowed to thaw out and come back to life, although legally they remain dead. In 'Before I Hang' 1940 Dr. John Garth Karloff is on death row and given an opportunity to test a serum using the blood of another criminal. 'The Devil Commands' 1941 sees Karloff portray Dr. Julian Blair, whose wife is killed in a road accident resulting in him attempting to connect with her consciousness beyond the grave. Finally, in 'The Boogie Man Will Get You' 1942 Karloff plays Professor Nathaniel Billings, the owner of a dilapidated mansion house. When new owners move in to the property Billings continues to inhabit the basement where he experiments on human subjects as he attempts to create a new race of people.

Surveillance expert Harry Caul Gene Hackman values his personal privacy and anonymity above all else. When he and partner Stan John Cazale are hired by a mysterious client known only as 'the director' Robert Duvall to follow a young couple, Harry deduces that the woman, Mary, is the director's wife, and the man an employee with whom she is conducting an affair. Harry becomes convinced that the director intends to murder the pair and, haunted by guilt from a previous assignment where the information he provided resulted in loss of human life, sets out to prevent the killing himself.

New Zealand drama written and directed by Jane Campion. The film follows Ada Holly Hunter, a mute Scottish woman sent to New Zealand with her daughter Anna Paquin for an arranged marriage to lonely landowner Stewart Sam Neill. When she arrives with her beloved piano in tow, Stewart forces her to leave it on the beach rather than carry it to his home. The estate manager, Baines Harvey Keitel, watches and listens in amazement when Ada visits the beach to play and subsequently he makes a deal with Stewart to keep it at his own house. Baines is enchanted by both the piano and Ada and eventually makes a bargain of sexual favours whereby Ada can win back the instrument.

Spanish fantasy story directed by Guillermo del Torro 'Cronos' with stunning sets, shocking scenes and effects - set in the mind's eye of a lonely young girl. Ofelia Ivana Baquero is a young girl in a remote mountain village in Spain in 1944 after Franco's ascension to power. To escape the upheaval and hardship her family faces her father died in the war and her mother Ariadna Gil has been forced to re-marry to a despotic Captain in Franco's fascist army, Ofelia creates a world in her mind. It's a beautiful place though not without its dark side but she's guided by a ghastly yet kindly fawn creature. The Captain, it soon transpires, is more interested in the son Ofelia's mother is carrying, than he is in either Ofelia or her mother. Mercedes Maribel Verd, the Captain's considerate servant, and Dr. Ferreiro the Captain's physician, are, it transpires, in league with the revolutionaries in the woods surrounding the army encampment. These resistance fighters are intent on liberating the rationed food and medicines they need. As the increasingly manic and paranoid captain assassinates anyone who looks at him the wrong way with alarming regularity, Ofelia's secret quests set by the fawn creature to unlock the portal to another world become more and more urgent. With its deft mixing of CGI and actual character scenes, political and social statement, Pan's Labyrinth has been referred to already as 'The Citizen Kane of fantasy films'.

Having become friendly with his neighbour, Irene Carey Mulligan, and her son, Benecio Kaden Leos, the Driver agrees to help Irene's husband Oscar Isaac escape from a robbery with the funds to pay off a gangland debt. Unfortunately, the job goes horribly wrong and Driver ends up on the run with a bag of loot in the boot of his car and a procession of ruthless gangsters - including Nino Ron Perlman and Bernie Albert Brooks - hot on his tail.
